Tiger Striped Clam
The ornamental tiger striped clam is usually referred to by it's not so attractive scientific name Scabies crispata. This freshwater clam has a wavy line pattern and, as far as clams go, this crustacean is quite pretty. These clams are not an invasive species and will not survive cold water. Scabies crispata will filter water and are a black and gold color so they are somewhat attractive. Like most clams, Scabies are active at night and move around looking for the best place to dig in the sand and filter.
