Maxima Clams 2''
The Tridacna Maxima Clam also goes by the common name of the giant clam but it's really the small giant clam since the true giant clam is Tridacna gigas. The colors on the Maxima Clam can be simply outrageous and extremely vibrant. Common mantle colors are blue, green, gold and turquoise with various mantle patterns. The Maxima Clam gets most of thier energy needs from the zooxanthellae living within the mantle and need high intensity lighting over the tank.Clams are also filter feeders and constantly filter the water for small particulates. Tridacna Maxima Clams larger than 2" do not require supplemental feedings, but smaller T. maxima that are less than 2" should be fed a phytoplankton or greenwater supplement several times per week if maintained in a nutrient poor reef aquarium.
