It is bright red with black dorsal markings. Like most hawkfishes, the flame hawkfish lacks a swim bladder. It is a percher and a bottom-dweller, living on and about coral heads and stony reefs. The Flame Hawkfish should be kept in a tank not less than 20 gallon with plenty of space and rock work to swim and perch on respectively. Though, the Flame Hawkfish is a small fish, but can grow up to 3.5 to 4 inches in the aquarium.
