The emerald rainbowfish, or wanamensis rainbowfish, is another example of a splendid species that might soon only exist due to the aquarium hobby. In native Papua New Guinea talipia were introduced as a food source and since the emerald rainbow population decreased rapidly. Fortunately a very effective breeding program in Florida allows these amazing green rainbows to be sustained for the aquarium hobby.
