Emerald Rainbowfish

The emerald rainbowfish, or wanamensis rainbowfish, is another example of a splendid species that might soon only exist due to the aquarium hobby. In native Papua New Guinea talipia were introduced as a food source and since the emerald rainbow population decreased rapidly. Fortunately a very effective breeding program in Florida allows these amazing green rainbows to be sustained for the aquarium hobby.

Wanamensis rainbowfish are large, growing up to four inches. These rainbowfish are not common and a bit pricier than their rainbow cousins.
