Redhead Synsplilum Cichlid
The redhead cichlid, or vieja synspilum, is from Mexico and Central America. These fish are pond raised in Florida for the aquarium trade. Synspila are prized for their colors by the Asian aquarium community and are used to hybridize parrot fish and flowerhorns. A male vieja synspilum in breeding display is typically pictured but as with all Central and South American cichlids, the color is more subtle most of the time.
